Korean premium brand Genesis has showcased its new all-electric future by unveiling the firm's third electric production car, the Electrified GV70.
The electric version of the existing BMW iX3 and Jaguar I-Pace rival will be the third EV that the brand will launch in 2022, following the smaller Genesis GV60 and the range-topping Electrified G80 saloon (we’ll have a review of that car on Move Electric next week).
Genesis will also be showcasing a model that looks a little further into the future: the X Speedium Coupe will also make an appearance at the motoring festival on June 23-26. That machine is a concept car that previews a sleek EV coupe, and also hints at the future design direction of electric Genesis models.
While Genesis has launched in the UK with a range of petrol and electric machines, it will only launch full electric models in the UK and Europe from 2025 onwards, and by 2030 it will be an EV-only brand.
The Electrified GV70 SUV will be a key part of that switch. It was first shown at the Guangzhou International Auto Exhibition in China last year, but since you probably didn’t see it there, this will be the first chance for UK car buyers to get an up-close look.
As with the Electrified G80, the styling of the Electrified GV70 will remain close to the combustion-engined version, albeit with a special panel replacing the radiator grille and some bespoke trim.
It features an all-wheel-drive set-up powered by a pair of electric motors – with one mounted on each axle – that produces 320kW of power and 516lb ft of torque. It uses a 77.4kWh battery that gives has an official range of just over 250 miles on the Korean test cycle.
UK pricing has not been set, but expect it to be in the region of £60,000.
