All certification aboard: Arrival electric bus gains EU type approval

6 May 2022

British electric vehicle start-up Arrival says its electric bus has achieved EU certification and European Whole Vehicle Type Approval – a huge step towards taking to the roads.

The firm called the confirmation a “critical step towards Arrival Buses carrying passengers on public roads in Europe and the UK”.

The Arrival Bus uses technology and components shared with the electric van and private hire car the firm is developing, with learnings from certification contributing to all vehicle programs.

Arrival says the new bus has been developed to meet the needs of cities across the globe.

The bus features flexible passenger seating capacity across its entire flat floor, which the firm claims helps with comfort as well as creating more standing space.

It also features wrap-around exterior and interior screens, adaptable lighting, a transparent roof and a suite of digital systems.

The vehicle also uses Arrival’s software ecosystem, which enables full connectivity, digital customisation, and deep access to vehicle behaviour and data.

Commenting on the EU certification, Arrival boss Denis Sverdlov said: “This key milestone for Arrival is a testimony to our innovative technologies and our unique new method of design and production of electric vehicles.

“Now more than ever, governments and cities must reform public transportation to have the radical impact the world needs today.

“The team has worked incredibly hard to make this a reality and we are happy to see our unique approach to designing vehicles realised.”
