Highlights of the year: e-biking with a dog

28 Dec 2022

The Move Electric team have been flat-out all year covering the hugely broad world of e-mobility, trying out some the best and most innovative machines – and meeting the people who make them.

This week our team are picking out their personal highlights of the year, those moments that stood out for whatever reason.

Next up it's Move Electric e-bike correspondent Rebecca Bland (with a guest appearance by Mila).

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit some wonderful places this year, and interview some fascinating people. But my highlight does have to be the first ride I did with my dog.

Before she’s fully vaccinated, I wanted to make sure she wasn’t afraid of bikes (because that would make the living arrangement a little awkward), that she was used to traffic, and that she could see more of the world than she would from the car or the garden.

I nestled her into her rucksack, strapped her onto my back and away we went. Her little nose caught the wind as we rode slowly at first around the local roads, taking in the scenery. I don’t speak canine, but I’m pretty sure she was enjoying herself, and the more powerful the acceleration on the e-bike, the more fun she had. Nowadays, if I drop below an adequate speed, she lets me know by nuzzling me to speed up.

The beauty of e-bikes is that that rarely happens, even on the hills. I love riding with her. Not just because she’s warm and it’s cold, but because she gets to see the world, and I get to do my job!
