Dott: energy crisis boosting shared e-scooter and e-bike usage

19 Jan 2023

People are using dockless e-scooters and e-bikes more regularly as a result of the energy crisis, according to leading mobility firm Dott.

Dott reports that more than one third (36%) of its riders are using its shared e-scooters and e-bikes in order to lower fuel costs from running a car.

Dott says that Over two thirds (69%) of those who previously travelled by car or taxi have reduced their use of energy heavy methods. In addition, 41% of Dott users are turning to e-bikes to travel around towns and cities.

The ride-sharing firm recently reported that it had achieved a record number of rides in 2022, almost doubling the trips taken in 2021.

Dott says that 63% of riders using its dockless machines - particularly those aged between 18 and 24 - are connecting their ride with public transport, further reducing car journeys.
Commuting trips are the most popular reason for use with 50% of riders using Dott vehicles to get to work or school.

“Our shared e-scooters and e-bikes can help lower the cost of travel, whether for a whole journey or combined with public transport for longer trips,” said Dott CEO and co-founder, Henri Moissinac.

“Charged by green energy, and with our operations relying on cargo bikes and e-vans, our fleet of vehicles provide efficient, environmentally friendly and affordable travel, at a time when fuel costs are putting people’s finances under pressure.”
