This electric fire truck will be in action at the Daytona 500

19 Jan 2023

The Daytona 500 isn’t the sort of event you’re likely to associate with electric vehicles: it runs for NASCAR stock cars, which still use roaring 5.86-litre naturally aspirated V8 combustion engines. But this year’s event could feature a very unusual electric vehicle: a fire engine.

Specialist vehicle manufacturer REV Fire Group provides the firefighting fleet for Daytona International Speedway in Florida, USA – and one of the four trucks that will be used at events this year is the battery-electric E-One Vector.

Produced by REV Fire Group subsidiary E-One, the Vector is a North American-style fire truck that features a 327kWh battery, with energy from it used to power both the vehicle’s drive motors and water pumping systems. REV claims the machine offers the longest electric pumping duration in the industry: 4730 litres per minute for more than two hours, in case you were wondering.

The Vector has been designed so that it can be customised for the requirements of each fire department, and can feature two electric motors.

The electric fire truck will be used for all of Daytona International Speedway’s key events this year, including the Daytona 500, the marquee event of the NASCAR Cup Series, and the Daytona 24 Hours sportscar race.
