British urban e-bike firm Gocycle has lowered the price of its highly rated G4 folding bike by £500 through the launch of a new retail sales scheme.

The firm has lowered the price of the Gocycle G4 from £3799 to £3299 through the introduction of a new Gocycle Showroom Partner (GSP) programme that will change the way it works with dealers. The price reduction is good news, since we already think the G4 is the best folding e-bike you can buy – and we also used it to set an e-bike lap record at Brands Hatch.

Gocycle has also added new 0% financing options for the G4 and joined the Green Commute Initiative Cycle to Work scheme, which enables the purchase of e-bikes through a salary sacrifice scheme.

Life with a Gocycle G4: we put the folding e-bike through a long-term test

Under the new GSP scheme, Gocycle dealers won’t buy a stock of G4 bikes to sell on, instead keeping a showroom display model that can also be used for test rides. Similar to new sales models adopted by car firms such as Volvo, all G4 sales will then be made through the Gocycle website, with dealers then earning a commission for referral.

Customers will also be able to nominate their local Gocycle dealer for pre- and post-sales support, and a free 100-mile service. While dealers will earn a lower commission than previously, Gocycle says that they benefit from removing the need to buy a large range of stock on credit. The firm also hopes the move will encourage new retailers to sign up.

Gocycle boss Richard Thorpe said the GSP has been launched because “the world has changed and we must too”.

He added: “Things are tough out there with cost-of-living increases and stock availability. We’ve taken a look at all of the areas in our promotion, warehousing, delivery and sales process, and where possible, we’ve implemented cost savings to make our entry level model more competitive and accessible to a wider customer and retailer base.”

The move does not affect the G4i and G4i+ halo models, which remain priced at £4999 and £5999 respectively.
