Leading ride-sharing firm Lime has launched a fleet of its latest Gen4 e-bikes in Nottingham as part of a new partnership with Nottingham City Council.

First confirmed last November, a fleet of up to 700 Gen4 e-bikes are now available to hire on a pay-as-you-go basis from virtual parking bays across the city, which Lime says will allow Nottingham residents to “enjoy the benefits that cycling can bring”.

Lime rental e-bikes are currently available to rent in a number of London boroughs in Brent, Camden, the CIty of London, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington and Richmond-upon-Thames.

In Nottingham, the e-bikes can be rented through the Lime app, costing £1 to unlock and then 17p per minute. The e-bikes will only work within the Nottingham City Council boundary. All of the bikes in Nottingham will feature stickers on their baskets reminding users to park them in designated areas.

Move Electric Awards 2022 Breakthrough Award: Lime

Lime public affairs manager Alice Pleasant said: "Lime’s e-bikes have become a popular addition to the streets of London, and in partnership with Nottingham City Council, we hope to see more and more people adopting alternative transport methods.”

Alex Flint, the boss of the Nottingham Business Improvement District, added: “Championing sustainable ways to access Nottingham city centre, to shop and socialise, or to visit and enjoy the city’s open and green spaces, is important to Nottingham Business Improvement District, so we’re very excited to see the new generation of Lime e-bikes arriving in the city."

The e-bike and e-scooter rental firm says it will offer 50 per cent off the cost of e-bike rides for lower income residents via its Lime Access programme, which gives eligible riders unlimited discounts with Lime.

While Lime has been welcomed in Nottingham, it has come under scrutiny after Wandsworth Council - a London borough which isn’t part of the scheme - said the firm needed to do more to clamp down on machines that had been parked badly causing obstructions.
