How’s this for a tasty tie-up? Leading British electric bike firm Volt Bikes has agreed a tie-up with delivery giant Deliveroo to give its riders across the UK access to subsidised e-bikes.
The trial partnership means that your next Vindaloo could be delivered by a Volt. Or, if you'd rather, your burger could arrive on the back of a Burlington. Essentially, Deliveroo riders will be able to get their hands on a subsidised Volt Burlington as part of efforts by the delivery company to explore the suitability of various buying options for riders.

The scheme will run across the UK, but is largely intended for delivery riders in towns and cities. As with other delivery e-bike options, the idea is that the Volt machines will be greener and more affordable than motorised vehicles such as cars or scooters, while being able to cover longer distances than non-motorised bikes.
Volt boss James Metcalfe called the partnership “incredibly exciting”, adding: “We look forward to seeing what impact this initial trial period can bring and hope to continue our collaboration into the future and get more riders on alternative more environmentally friendly transport soon.”
Paul Bedford, Deliveroo’s director of sustainability said the firm was committed to “taking action to drive sustainability.” He added: “By significantly reducing the cost of a new, high spec Volt e-bike, we hope to accelerate the trend towards a greener fleet, reducing carbon emissions while helping riders to maximise their earnings – a win-win for all.”

The Volt Burlington uses a 250W Bafang Spintech rear hub motor, and the regular version is offered with a 400Wh or 504Wh battery that offers a range of up to 70 miles. The battery is removable so it can be swapped for a different one, and can be charged in around three-hour hours.
The Burlington also has Suntour NCX tapered front suspension, Schwalbe tyres and Tektro hydraulic brakes. It has a 17in step-through frame, sits on 27.5in wheels and weights 22.7kg with the battery. There is a rear pannier, a built-in lock and built-in front and rear lights. It is currently priced at £2074 for the regular version, while Bolt has not disclosed what the Deliveroo rider discount will be.
